Weekend Workshops
Introduction to Structural Integration
Structural Integration is the theory and practice of organizing the human being in the gravitational field, and was developed by Dr. Ida Rolf in the early 1900's in the United States. This 24-hour course will explore the theory and practice of this dynamic approach to bodywork. The student will gain an ability to use body reading to develop a strategic approach to the first three sessions of Dr. Rolf's recipe for Structural Integration, individualized for each client. This course is excellent for those curious about Structural Integration and will give any manual therapist powerful tools to treat chronic myofascial dysfunction.
Please bring shorts and a tank style top to class.

Strategies For Structural Bodywork
A Holistic Approach to Neck Pain
Did you know that every major fascial plane of the body passes through the neck? This means that many times your client's complaints of neck pain have their roots well below the neck - yes even as far below as the feet. Learn to recognize body-wide patterns of tension that express themselves as neck pain and dysfunction and become more efficient with your treatment plans. Help your clients get rid of that persistent pain in the neck.
In this sixteen-hour course we will explore the major fascial plains of the body from the feet through the neck, identifying tissues that can bind causing dysfunction and pain in the neck. We will look at patterns of tension frequently associated with neck pain and strategy development to unravel these patterns, unraveling tissues that that can cause neck problems though they are well distant from the area of complaint. Hands-on myofascial techniques will also be offered and practiced.

Intra-Oral Myofascial Release
Are you aware of the intricate fascial connections between the jaw and the neck? This is one possible reason why those who suffer with Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMJD) frequently complain of headaches. In this class, we will explore these connections and learn to accurately palpate and work related structures. This work is not only useful for TMJD but also those stubborn neck issues by getting to tissues that affect the neck and head which can not be accessed any other way.
In this eight-hour course we will explore the anatomy and myofascial connections of the jaw, Temporomandibular joint and neck - as well as its association to the "primary control" mechanism as described by F.M. Alexander. There will also be ample time for demonstration and supervised practice of manual intra-oral techniques.

Strategies For Structural Bodywork - Pelvic Positioning
It is obvious to any seasoned therapist that pelvic position is critical in the treatment of lower back pain and dysfunction, but everything piled on top of the pelvis as well as structures below are also affected by pelvic misalignment. Learn to recognize tension patterns that have their roots in the pelvis, gain more detailed knowledge of the muscles that determine pelvic position and be more affective with your treatment of lower back pain and more.
This sixteen-hour workshop reviews the psoas and myofascial structures that affect pelvic positioning through assessment and development of strategies and techniques to positively impact and provide structural change to the body's core. The course consists of ilistrated lecture

Tai Chi for Bodyworkers - More Than Body Mechanics
The burnout rate for massage therapists is high, largely due to two factors, Body mechanics and energetic transference. If you ever have pain or discomfort in your neck, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, or lower back during or after a session your body mechanics are less then efficient. Using Tai Chi as a basis for body machines your work will energize you rather then ware you out. A Tai Chi practice generates energy and assures that the energy of the session flows from the earth through you and into the client, giving the client an outstanding experience. This also protects you form unwanted energetic transfer.
In this sixteen-hour class we will use the movements and principles of Tai Chi, Emerald Dragon, and other styles of Qi Gong to develop good body use habits and relate these habits to working at the table as well as give you tools to enhance both the quality and quantity or you own energy. There will be several bodywork exchanges between participants with supervision and body mechanics suggestions.

East Meets West
Blending Strategies for Structural Balance With Chinese Medical Massage
his workshop will blend the principles found in western structural bodywork with traditional Chinese medicine to form a powerful therapeutic system. Students will understand the theoretical basis for treatment as well as learn east/west blended treatment protocols for chronic conditions of the low back, pelvis/hip, knee and ankle.
